    "title": "Why Honeybees Dance",
    "text": "A honeybee that finds a good patch of flowers has a problem: how can it tell the rest of the hive where to go? Bees cannot draw maps or speak. Instead, they dance.\n\nScientists call it the waggle dance. The bee walks in a straight line while shaking its body, then circles back and repeats the move. The direction of the straight line shows the direction of the flowers compared to the sun.\n\nThe length of the waggle tells the distance. A longer waggle means the flowers are farther away. Other bees crowd around the dancer, feel its movements in the dark hive, and then fly off to find the food.\n\nKarl von Frisch, an Austrian scientist, spent years studying this behavior. In 1973, he shared the Nobel Prize for his work. Before his research, many people did not believe insects could share such detailed information.\n\nToday, scientists still study the waggle dance. Understanding how bees find food may help farmers protect these insects, which pollinate many of the crops people eat."
